Ciego de Avila, Cuba – The military personnel at the Provincial Prison of Ciego de Avila deny the prisoner of conscience of the “Group of the 75”, PEDRO ARGUELLES MORAN, the prescribed medications he requires.
Arguelles Moran’s wife, Yolanda Vera Nerey, told Juan Carlos Gonzalez Leiva who is the Secretary General of the Council of Human Rights Rapporteurs in Cuba, that her husband had to carry out a hunger strike in prison this past June 16, and remained 72 hour without consuming any food, to demand that prison authorities hand him the anti-acid tablets brought to him by his family which were prescribed by his doctors.
Vera Nerey added that her husband is practically blind, suffers from prostatic adenoma, generalized arthropathy, and chronic gastritis.
PEDRO ARGUELLES MORAN, 59 years old, is the director of the Ciego de Avila Independent Journalists Cooperative, and was condemned to 20 years in prison during the Cuban government crackdown of March 2003. He is serving his sentence in the prison of Canaleta, more than 400 kms. east of Havana in the province of Ciego de Avila. His residence is located at: Calle SimOn Reyes #69 entre Chicho ValdEs y JoaquIn de Aguero, in the city of Ciego de Avila.

Los militares de la prisión provincial de Ciego de Ávila le niegan los medicamentos al prisionero de conciencia del Grupo de los 75, Pedro Argüelles Moran.
Su esposa, Yolanda Vera Nerey, dijo a Juan Carlos González Leiva, secretario ejecutivo del Consejo de Relatores de Derechos Humanos de Cuba, que Argüelles tuvo que plantarse el pasado 16 de junio en huelga de hambre y permanecer 72 horas sin ingerir alimentos, exigiendo que le entregaran las tabletas antiácidas traída por sus familiares y recetadas por los médicos.
Añadió Vera Nerey que su cónyuge está prácticamente ciego, que tiene un adenoma de próstata, padece de artrosis generalizada y de gastritis crónica.
Pedro Argüelles Morán, de 59 años de edad, es el director de la cooperativa Avileña de Periodistas Independientes; fue condenando a 20 años de cárcel en la ola represiva de marzo de 2003, sanción que extingue en la prisión Canaleta, Ciego de Ávila. Su residencia es encuentra en calle Simón Reyes #69 e/ Chicho Valdés y Joaquín de Agüero, en dicha localidad.
